Afternoon tea at Sketch Gallery in London. Is it worth the price?

Where to start with Sketch Gallery in Mayfair London? Maybe I start at the fact I haven’t been there until recently. I know, hard to believe, right? Probably most of the girls living or regularly visiting London have been there. And especially if they have an Instagram account. Why? It is probably one of the most insta worthy place.

Sketch has different places to eat and drink. There is the Lecture room & Library with 2 Michelin stars, The Glade for lunch and cocktails, The Parlour (all day dining) and the East Bar and Pods for drinks. My friend and I chose the famous pink room Sketch Gallery for an afternoon tea. I say famous, as every insta girl goes there for its all pink decoration (and the cakes, of course).

What will you get at Sketch Gallery afternoon tea?

I must admit, the room is beautiful and the chairs and sofas fluffy and soft. It is one of those places you want to sit for a long time. We chose the basic afternoon tea set without alcohol. For the price of £60 you get unlimited coffee or tea and selection of sandwiches and cakes. The whole thing starts with a waiter dressed in all white suit and a hat. He serves you soldiers with a spoon of caviar and a quails egg on melted cheese in a pot. It is quite delicious and I was impressed with the quality of service.Sketch Gallery London caviar and egg soldiers

Next comes the pyramid full of sandwiches and cakes. We had a classic smoked salmon roll on rye toast, coronation chicken sandwich and a classic cucumber sandwich. To be honest, I never understood why in UK the cucumber sandwich is so popular? I find it rather boring and bland. The salmon sandwich was tasty but tiny. The good thing though is, you can order to refill. The cakes were really nice with profiterole kind of cake being a highlight.Afternoon tea at Sketch Gallery London Petra Brisby Chic Journal blogger at Sketch Gallery London

In the end we supposed to get scones but when telling the waiter we couldn’t possibly manage anything else, we received a delicious looking chocolate cake to take away. My kids were absolutely delighted when they got such a treat.

Overall I really enjoyed Sketch Gallery afternoon tea. Even though I was quite put off by the price (for £60 you can have really good quality food elsewhere) but the place is quite unique and that what makes it special and worth seeing.  I also like the details on the cups and bowls. They all have little phrases, like “it is not OK”. Mind you, I wouldn’t dream of taking my husband. Sketch Gallery is really very girly place and if you have an IG account, this is a must. To finish, below are few info, I hope you also find helpful.

3 must things when going to Sketch Gallery:

  1. Reservation is a must here and the sooner, the better. The afternoon tea at the Sketch Gallery is from lunch time till around 5:30 and from 6:30 you can have a dinner in the same room.
  2. Dress to impress. This is a really over the top place when it comes to decoration so please leave your casual clothes and trainers at home and dress up.

Even if you spend short time. make sure you go to see the loos. The loos are a bit like a space ship place, very futuristic and each cabin looks like an egg. Not the most convenient place, but impressive for sure.Sketch Gallery restaurant London design loo

Sketch Gallery is a great place for girls. In the end of the day, what can be more girly than a pink room and a table full of cakes? It is my kind of place when I just want to have a nice afternoon with girls. But if you want to take your husband, maybe better to choose somewhere less pink.Sketch Gallery London Afternoon tea price

For the occasion I was wearing the clothes from Club Monaco, one of my favourite brands.

The top was the same I was wearing here. It is one of the tops you can wear in winter and in summer.

I love wearing culottes trousers. They always look great, whether you wear sandals or ankle boots. You can read more about how to wear culottes here.

As we went there exactly when it was over 20C in London (in October!!) I teamed it with L.K.Bennett mules and Quay Australia sunglasses.

My Hermes Birkin bag is great when I am having busy day running around and need to carry more things.

As you can see, I am also carrying my pink Sketch paper bag with the delicious cake i gave to my kids 🙂

Loved reading your honest blog. I felt that I was there! I laughed about the husband bit and totally understand why it’s not for men. The toilets are definitely futuristic not sure if I could have sat there.
But like you said it’s a place you do need to visit so maybe next time?
