The Peninsula Paris. Luxurious 5* hotel in the heart of the French capital

The Peninsula Paris hotel

Peninsula hotels are one of the best in the world, with the branches in Tokyo, Shanghai, New York or Paris. Just recently we stayed in the Peninsula Paris hotel and Goodness me it was a pleasant stay. The hotel itself is very beautiful and I was surprised by how huge it is. As you know probably, in Paris every square metre is golden and just the lobby of this hotel is so big, you feel like you need to walk a fair bit to get across from reception over to concierge.

Location. The Peninsula Paris hotel is centrally located (Avenue Kleber). Well actually it depends what do you call “central”. You can walk 3 min to Arch de Triumph or 5 min to Champs Elysee or 10 min to Eiffel Tower. But if you want to see Louvre, Marais or Notre Dame, you need to walk quite a bit or take a taxi. As this is my favourite part of Paris, for me the location can’t be better.

Design is very contemporary with the art deco influence and clean lines. In the lobby the main feature is a massive and very modern chandelier, which looks like loads of glass leaves hanging leisurely from the ceiling. It definitely gives the place a wow factor.

Rooms are beautiful and spacious. The best thing about them is the valet box. I must say I never saw anything like it anywhere in the world. It is a little hidden “magic” cupboard you will find in your room. It serves for placing the laundry (so that someone will collect without you speaking or seeing anyone) as well as you will find your newspapers there every morning. We had a junior suite which was already generous with space, however the separate dressing room and entrance hall gave the room feel of a small apartment. Oscar de la Renta bathroom amenities and build in Espresso machine were just an icing on the cake.

There are several restaurants in The Peninsula Paris hotel. Le Lobby, an international and frech, where the breakfast is served and the design is very opulent with gold, glass and mirrors as main materials. Lili, the Cantonese restaurant which is absolutely excellent (I haven’t been in, but had a room service from it loved it). L’Oiseau Blanc which is on the rooftop of the hotel. That one is one is super romantic, with a view of Eiffel Tower and Montmartre. The decoration of this restaurant is inspired by aviation, particularly by Charles Nungesser and François Coli who attempted to cross the Atlantic in 1927 from Le Bourget. There is, in fact, a real plane hanging outside of the restaurant! The last one is the La Terrasse Kleber, the largest enclosed terrace in Paris serving snacks and small food throughout the whole day.

I am usually very fussy about service. But in The Peninsula Paris, the service is impeccable. Not overly friendly or personal, but extremely professional, helpful and knowledgeable.

Overall I think this hotel is truly amazing and would go back there in a heart beat. If you can’t decide whether to stay in uber luxurious Plaza Athenee (a Parisian classic, which I also love) or here, I would recommend you to try this one for sure.

And if you ever decide to go or you have already been, let me know what you do you think

Classic white shirt and why you should have at least one in your wardrobe

White shirt is one of my staples of my wardrobe. It is an essential I tend to obsess about I always want to have at least one ready to put on any day. Maybe it is somehow like having a uniform you love to put on ever time you want to be comfortable and chic. I believe every woman should have them and if you are, by any chance, among those who still resist, maybe my reasons to buy one will get you on board.

Why you should get classic white shirt

  1. There is nothing more simple than crisp white shirt and blue jeans. It it a timeless classic and it will always look chic and effortless. You can use it as your daily uniform.
  2. If you are having a bit of a Monday blues or just simply don’t know what top to put on, such a shirt will never let you down. It goes with everything.
  3. You can dress it up or down and you can wear it all day long from office to dinner date.
  4. There are countless of styles and there isn’t a body shape it wouldn’t suit.
  5. White colour always light up your face.

You can choose the looser fit, fitted, with ruffles and many more. On the pictures I am wearing classic shirt, with a bit loose fit with jeans with unfinished ends, both from Zara. These Gianvito Rossi suede simple pumps are one of my favourite for the day. The look the best with relaxed outfits. The silver leather jacket complete the whole chic look.

The best of Chanel new collection summer 2018

Oh Chanel and their creations. Always on the top of their game, with no fail. I am always so excited to see what is new. And this Chanel new collection is as beautiful as ever. If you are a Chanel fan, then this post is for you. You know with some brands, you can have favourite designs, but with Chanel? You got to love them all, don’t you thing? And have you already seen the new cruise collection? Some of the pieces are so beautiful it would make your heart pump faster with excitement. OK they are eye wateringly expensive, but hey, it is Chanel.

I may say that every year, but I think this year Chanel new collection is one of the most beautiful overall. The colours are bright and interesting. For example some bags feature lime green colour with shimmering silver undertone. Salmon pink seems to be one of the top colour used across the whole collection with different levels of richness. However even this salmon pink has some undertones of orange and blue or green as well. It goes really well with most of the colours of anyone’s wardrobe (which is very good news right?).

What to wear to a black tie event. Complete guide to dress code rules.

It is again the time of the year that party invitations are coming from left and right. The party season is here and with that also the dilemma what to wear. There are limitless choices for dresses in the shops, so I am not worry about you now being able to choose one. But what if you have just received an invitation for a black-tie party? I am in the middle of the planning my birthday party, which will be in black tie and that made me think. Does everyone know what to wear? And maybe your New Years Eve party is in black tie. So do you know what are the rules for the dress code?

I feel like recently people bend the rules a bit too much. And I can’t help myself but wonder. Why so many women (and some men) dress far too casually for a black tie event? Is it because the society is more relaxed (and accepts that), or because women just don’t want to dress that formally anymore or are they simply not quite sure what exactly does it mean? Whatever the reason, I just think that it is a wonderful opportunity to dress formally and beautifully.

Black tie dress code rules for men

  • What should men wear? Well finally there is a dress code for men, that a bit more complicated than usually.
    1. Black (ideally wool) dinner jacket, also called tuxedo in USA. It can be both single breasted or double breasted. White shirt with Marcella collar with cufflinks and studs (white plain silk shirt is also an option, but no other colour). Black trousers with single row of braid down each leg. Black silk bow tie, no ties!
    2. There are nowadays also more modern variations. Dinner jacket can be made from dark blue, green or burgundy velvet. In terms of shoes, men can wear now velvet slippers, but ideally embroidered with crest.

Black tie dress code rules for women

  • And for woman? These are the rules that every woman should know.
    1. Long or short? Long is always a safe bet. You can wear a short though still it should not be a mini. Knee length (or just below) is good. And now the colour. Black tie doesn’t mean you have to wear a black dress (or skirt). Black colour doesn’t add the formality, it is all about the cut and design. I love this one from L.K. Bennett for example.
    2. If it is a sitting dinner, avoid very high splits (for obvious reasons), very tight skirts or dresses (not very comfortable to sit in) as well as huge volume (also not comfortable to squeeze everything under the table.
    3. Tights or no tights? Yes, wear tights, sheer or black. If you have a long dress, you can get away with no tights, but we are here to clarify the rules, right? And the rules are tights.
    4. Cleavage should be decent. You are not going to the night club, but black tie, formal event. So, leave your deep-up-to-waist cleavage at home.
    5. Both fine jewellery and costume jewellery are fine. (no tiaras).
    6. If you absolutely hate wearing a dress or skirt, you can wear trousers. However, go for the palazzo style trousers (very wide, loose legs from the waist).
    7. Last, but not least. Leave all the big bags at home and wear a clutch.

And the best thing is, you really don’t need to spend an absolute fortune. I found for you the perfect dresses here for every budget. You will find dresses in all sorts of shapes, colours and lengths. Just make your pick. And on the top of that, I found for you great shoes and bags to splurge on (or to save on).

Eighties are back and this Topshop coat with mutton sleeves is a must have.

Did you hear? Eighties are back with their mutton sleeves trend. Great news, right? Mutton sleeves are actually much older than that. They started already at the beginning of the 19th century and since then they just keep coming back once in while, like any other good trend. Mutton sleeves are the ones that starts with an accumulation of a lot of fabric slightly below the shoulder and than get tight again at the wrist area. You can now see this trend popping up everywhere and Topshop even came up with an amazing winter coat. When I saw it first, I thought it looks rather enormous and just baggy. But when I tried this Topshop coat I could see how chic it was. There are many different blue coats, but this one with mutton sleeves is my favourite.

Topshop coat with mutton sleeves

I love the way it emphasise the hourglass figure, even if you don’t have one.  it looks great open as well, but I really like to make the belt quite tight. It has a great length, just below knees. That makes it a great coat for dresses and knee length skirts. My favourite look is to wear it with a turtleneck sweater underneath, ideally white or off white like this one or this one. The white makes the coat stand out a bit more. Simple blue jeans and Sergio Rossi boots makes the whole look very effortless and chic. The winter headband is just cherry on the cake, however I can imagine you might like to choose to wear it with one of those big winter scarfs, like this one.

When it comes to coats, I always follow my rule to always go for good quality over a trend. Last year it was all about classics with a beige coat. This year it is Topshop coat which combines both the trend with the quality. In the end of the day, if you choose well, you have a beautiful coat that lasts for at least few years.
